Wheat...West coast wheat bids were generally firmer in early-week trade,
drawing support from the modest uptick across the futures complex. White
wheat was the exception, with nearby basis being somewhat defensive against
Chicago futures. Spot basis for soft white has drifted about 30 cents lower
since mid-May.
Crop Progress...Winter wheat conditions for the Pacific Northwest held
steady with the prior week at 101% of average. Idaho good to excellent
ratings climbed 4 points to 79% and Oregon was up 1 point to 61%, while
Washington slipped 2 points to 75%. Near record heat also nipped spring
wheat ratings, with the Idaho good to excellent rating off 2 points to 67%
and Washington off a point to 59%.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed another relatively solid
week of U.S. shipments, coming in at 20.2 million bushels to put the year-
to-date total 16% ahead of a year ago at 801 million bushels. White wheat
was the top mover with 6.2 million bushels, hard red spring registered a
total of 5.8 million and hard red winter moved 4.8 million. West coast
ports loaded 13.3 million bushels of wheat, with over half of that going
to South Korea and Indonesia, along with 20 million bushels of corn.
