Wheat...West coast cash wheat markets showed prices moved higher over
the week, as another week of relatively strong export demand reflects U.S.
competitiveness after the recent price declines. Nearby basis levels also
strengthened for all three classes of wheat this week.
Weekly Sales...USDA reported another respectable week of export demand
for U.S. wheat, coming in at nearly 20 million bushels and second best of
the marketing year next to last week. Commitments of 443 million bushels
set 28% below a year ago and 10% below the five-year average pace. Hard
red spring was the top seller with 8.3 million bushels to place sales at
136 million, which is 11% below a year ago and 6% below average. Sales of
soft white rebounded to 5.4 million bushels and with 139 million in the
books, sets 5% ahead of a year ago and 27% above average. Hard red winter
booked 4 million bushels and with 90 million in commitments, stands 62%
below a year ago and 39% below average.
Top Buyers...The Philippines was the top wheat buyer last week with
4.4 million bushels, followed by South Korea with 3.6 million, Indonesia
with 2.6 million, and Thailand and Unknown with 2.1 million each.
